As opposed to referral marketing, any affiliate marketing should be incentivized by an attractive commission rate and transparent rules. It is especially relevant to eCommerce newcomers: a solid monetary base can act as a means of building trust among prospective affiliates. If you want to prove the credibility of your new business, be generous when considering the reward.
Another mistake I see many affiliate marketers make on social media is thinking a bit too much about the money. You can’t just put up a bunch of post everyday that are essentially advertisements. It gets old fast and most people view it just as bad as spam. It’s ok to throw in some relevant ads once in a while, but the majority of your posts and updates on social media should not contain affiliate links or links to sales pages on your website. This is especially true for new affiliate marketers who have only recently established a following. Build trust first and monetize later.

It is worth noting that you can also build unique URLs with your affiliate code that don't take readers directly to a product. Instead, it could take them to a collection of products, a content page, or some other intermediate step in the purchase funnel. The Creative Market Partner Program, for example, rewards you with a 10% cut of everything your referred customers buy for a full year. This means that regardless of whether they made a purchase immediately, or signed up and bought later, you will still get your cut.
Amazon’s obviously a really big one. It’s an easy one that a lot of people like to use. So I would start with Amazon if you’re new to affiliate links. The other places I would check would be CJ.com, LinkShare.com, ShareASale.com, and ImpactRadius.com. They’re like the affiliate networks or the houses that house all the different brands inside. So you can find the Wal-Marts and the Targets or whatever inside those networks. So once you get approved for their service, you can just start applying to all those different ones.
Everything I promote is about mass appeal and the path of least resistance to generating conversions / $$$. It is far easier to get someone fill out a short form than to get them to pull out their credit card and make a purchase. So why struggle with trying to sell this or that, when you can provide free information that users want/need and get paid well doing it.
They use all the main social media networks, but their Instagram practice is a great example. With beautiful travel pictures from around the world, you only need to spend 5 minutes on their profile before you want to go to their site and search for a cheap trip abroad. Not only does their feed look pretty, it’s very effective at getting you to click right through to their website once you see what you’re missing.
Why is it that in most European, North American and South American companies, it's considered polite to get to know a potential business partner before signing a deal? Because by conversing, socializing and being friendly with that person, he or she is more likely to sign on the line, and then to continue doing business with your company for longer thereafter.
If you’re running WordPress, I use a plugin called Thirsty Affiliates to cloak, manage, and track my affiliate links (you have to pay Thirsty Affiliates for their add-ons if you want extra features). The free version is still good… just install the plugin and find the “Affiliate Links” tab on the left of your dashboard. Add the link name and destination URL, save it, then copy the cloaked version of the URL so you can add it to your Youtube video annotations.
