This is something you will hear from a lot of millennials - these are people who can get all they need from their smartphone. The old thinking - that websites were something you sat in front of a laptop to view - doesn't really hold up anymore. Murphy goes along with this, saying, "social media affiliate users are impulsive - they might not want to open a newsletter, for example."
Book mail and a book haul! Thank you very much @berkleypub for sending me a free copy of Vox to review! Gonna be reading this dystopian read this month! 🙌 . Hunger by Roxane Gay has been on my radar FOREVER so I was thrilled when @willoughbybooks chose it as my last subscription book! I’m very sad that my two year subscription has ran out but I’ll be resubscribing when I get a full time job 😍 and if you want to subscribe in the mean time, use the link in my bio to save 10%! #affiliate . The other three are charity shop finds from my outing this morning! I can’t resist picking up Toni Morrisons now and the other two just caught my eye. Idaho is described as a raw family drama and The L-Shaped Room is the account of a pregnant single girl in 1950s London! . I would love to hear your thoughts if you’ve read any of these! ☺️ . . . . . . . . . . . #voxbook #christinadalcher #hunger #roxanegay #tonimorrison #bookhaul #bibliophile #bookstagram #reading #igreads #bookworm #booknerd #booklover #booklove #lovebooks #bookish #bookaddict #read #fiction #secondhandbooks
According to eBizMBA, Twitter has more than 3 hundred million estimated unique monthly visitors. If you’re feeling disappointed with Facebook, I have good news for you! On Twitter, you can tweet every 15 minutes – that’s an average lifespan of a tweet. In fact, it’s recommended to tweet no less than five or ten times every day. But the general rule still stands – you can’t expect to make money on Twitter by tweeting sales pitches every 15 minutes – you need to build a relationship. And after you establish a Twitter presence, you can link to relevant affiliate offers without having to worry about getting unfollowed or blocked.
You need to invest some money upfront if you go for a Shopify store and if you want to automate the business then you can pay for plugins like Oberlo. Creating a Shopify store, filling it up with products and setting everything up can now be done within few hours. It doesn't take much time but just a little investment. Then comes the next part - Advertising your store. You'll again have to spend some bucks but the best part is you will see sales and income soon.
(For the newbies) – A “cookie” is a tracking method.  If a company has a 60-day cookie, it means that if I click on your affiliate link and go to that site but don't purchase anything during that visit, I can go to that website directly (without using your link again) and if I make a purchase within 60 days, it will credit to you.  This cookie is only good on the device I initially use your link on.  So if I first click through your link on my phone, but then go home and visit the website directly from my computer, the cookie isn't tracking it because the cookie was on my phone.

As opposed to referral marketing, any affiliate marketing should be incentivized by an attractive commission rate and transparent rules. It is especially relevant to eCommerce newcomers: a solid monetary base can act as a means of building trust among prospective affiliates. If you want to prove the credibility of your new business, be generous when considering the reward.

It’s also worthwhile to highlight the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) view on making money through Twitter. In short, it’s A-OK as long as certain protocol is followed–specifically, identifying promoted tweets as ads and including the type of fine print that traditionally accompanies other types of ads. A lot of celebs have ignored these rules so far with no consequences, but it seems likely there will be a crackdown eventually.

When done correctly, YouTube affiliate marketing can be a great way to make a bit of extra money off of your channel. It may not be enough to live on, but it can certainly give you a little extra spending money. By being genuine and purposeful with your links, and signing up to programs that provide products or services that you think will genuinely benefit your audience, you are much more likely to get clicks and make commission, and in the end, both you and the viewer win. Before you do though, don't forget to read up on the do's and don'ts of affiliate marketing, as it's all to easy to get caught in a pitfall.
Review: If you're a do-it-yourselfer running your own Shopify store who doesn't have much website coding experience, are working with a limited budget, or want to test the waters with an affiliate management software that's easy to setup and get running, I recommend checking out Affiliatly. Plans begin at $16/month after a free 30 day trial and every plan offers the full suite of features, limited only by the number of affiliates allowed. Even though I recommend this software for budget-conscious startup stores, it's actually quite feature rich and would be great to run your mid-sized affiliate program too. I use Affiliatly to power the affiliate programs on a couple of my print-on-demand t-shirt stores. Anytime I've needed help, the support team has responded back within a few hours, and I've never had any hangups with the software. Affiliatly is one of the first places I recommend looking for new store owners.
A lot of people don't get Twitter. Perhaps they're put off engagement on the network by the endless slew of negative news about the activities of trolls (abusive people), sending angry, upsetting or annoying messages to other Twitter users. However, to really use social media to its maximum in promoting your affiliate programs, you need to be on Twitter, as we explored previously.

All plans include unlimited affiliates and monthly visitors, the ability to track sales by discount code, emails, or SKU, and the ability to offer different commission rates for individual affiliates or products. The Professional Plan is limited by the quantity of affiliate sales generated in a month. The Custom plan includes a higher quantity of sales.

Skillshare is a platform that provides it's users with high-quality video tutorials that they can then apply in real life. With Skillshare, you can earn $10 in commission for every new customer that signs up for a membership or a free trial, and the software that Skillshare uses can track your referrals for 30 days. So long as you can demonstrate that you have at least one channel and audience that is aligned with Skillshare's brand. Skillshare is a particularly popular site at the moment, and shouldn't be hard to suggest to your audience, as they offer excellent tutorials and free trials.
To summarize, the benefit of using an affiliate network to find affiliates suitable to your product niche is that you already have access to a pre-built audience of quality affiliates, ranking them among some of the best affiliate programs. The perk of creating your own ecommerce affiliate program, on the other hand, is that you have more control over it and will likely pay fewer fees. Keep in mind that the downside of creating an ecommerce affiliate program from scratch is that you’ll need to find your own affiliates, which can be a challenging aspect of affiliate marketing for beginners. Fortunately, if you already have a substantial customer base, you can also allow your customers to be affiliates as influencers, a common trend on blogs or platforms like Instagram. This can even help turn them into evangelists for your brand.

A relative newcomer that was only founded in 2014, ConvertKit has taken the world of email marketing by storm. According to the company, they now have nearly 20,000 active customers of their email services. Their affiliate program works by paying existing customers a lifetime 30 percent commission for referrals that subsequently become ConvertKit customers or who sign up for ConvertKit webinars and other digital products.

In 2010 I started my first blog, I Heart Photoshop, to teach Photoshop tutorials and how-to’s to the basic hobby user. A year later, I had jumped ship on that blog and put on my mommy blogger hat. In those early days of blogging, I was like a kid in a candy store when I would receive even $5 from an affiliate link or relationship and I would have NEVER believed that I would ever get to the point where I could generate over $1,000+/month from affiliates.

One keyword will be your main target keyword and the other(s) will be supporting keywords. You want to make sure your main target keyword appears in your blog post title, pin title, blog post URL, and pin description. That means you’ve optimized your pin to rank highly for that keyword. In that case, Pinterest is more likely to show your pin to someone who searches for the keyword. As you can see, Pinterest is a lot like Google. It wants to deliver fresh, relevant content to users. You can help the Pinterest algorithm do that by telling it exactly what your pin is about using keywords. That’s why Pinterest Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is so important!
This is crucial! Do NOT save your affiliate pins, or any pins for that matter, to generic, all-niche boards. You’d confuse Pinterest. When you share a new pin, the Pinterest algorithm goes to work to figure out what that pin is about. It determines this based on the image, keywords, and the boards where the pin is saved. If you want to learn the ins and outs of how the Pinterest Algorithm works, there’s no better course than Pinteresting Strategies. Mommy blogger, Carly Campbell, walks you through how she went from 0-200k page views a month by mastering the Pinterest algorithm and manual pinning.
Social media has been around for a long time now - MySpace started getting traction in 2004, then Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the rest, followed. It's become accepted that social media isn't just for children, and isn't just a toy. Given that most people know this, how do you maximize the value of being on social channels? Let's look at how to make money on social media with affiliate marketing.
Hi Jamie! Thank you for the great information. I just learned about affiliate marketing last week. The source however, is an older couple who work for World Wide Dreams Builders (WWDB). So, basically Amway. After researching a bit. I have no interest in WWDB and. (It sounds like years of recruiting people with minimal payout) Though, I am highly intrigued by e-commerce and affiliate marketing. Before your post the company I recognized was Amazon. Can you please tell me if that will be the best 1st step. I am currently an unemployed student Veteran. So plan to fully emerge into this business regime and would greatly appreciate your advice on this!!!
Alexis Grant is an affiliate marketer, but she’s got other business models running too. She runs a content creation company, a site for writers, and has a bunch of training programs and other excellent resources. But she also does a lot of affiliate marketing, and she reveals her earnings, which is extremely interesting. Check out her recent post, Affiliate Sales: A Realistic Guide for Earning Revenue From Your Website.

Better yet, Tailwind offers an affiliate marketing program that offers 15% commission on every sale. When you sign up as a Tailwind affiliate you get a cookie for your website that tracks all referral transactions for 90-days giving you 15% on all sales. In addition, the program offers dozens of pre-made creative assets that you can use to sell on your website.

The most important rule you need to remember when adding affiliate links is to mention that it is an affiliate link. In your pin descriptions, Pinterest urges you to always disclose that it is an affiliate link and affiliate networks require it. You can write this within your description or use #affiliate at the end of your description. This needs to be done in order to follow affiliate networks rules and abide by FTC regulations.
Hootsuite and Buffer are multi-platform applications with which you can plan when to post things through scheduling them, and decide to which channel each post should go. Both offer advice as to when the best time is to post, or let you decide for yourself. Most of the biggest social networks are covered by both, although as they are freemium (some features are free, some paid), you'll need to decide what core features you need in order to promote your site and brands on social media. For a small-scale affiliate with a few stories per week and two or three social channels, the free versions of Buffer and Hootsuite are probably sufficient.
According to Drew Hendricks of Inc.com, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have proven to be high converting channels of social media selling. But not every channel connects with every audience. They each have their own character and each demand a tailored approach. With over a billion active monthly users, Facebook is the largest social media network. If you want to get in front of the largest social media audience, Facebook is your destination. Twitter is great for learning about consumers’ likes, interests and online activity. So to educate the market about your brand and to learn more about your own customers, establish a Twitter presence. Whereas LinkedIn attracts people engaged in business and thought leaders from different industries. Target LinkedIn to reach B2B prospects.
Previously known as Affiliate Window but now officially referred to as “AWIN” after acquiring Zanox a few years ago, this network claims to work with over 13,000 active advertisers and 100,000 publishers (affiliates). Founded in Germany, AWIN’s merchants primarily hail from Europe (especially Great Britain) although the U.S. network is growing rapidly. AWIN is currently active in 11 countries.
JVZoo lets you both host and create landing pages on their own website, so it’s far better suited for professional marketers who want to flood the internet with offers, many of them for courses to make money. You don’t need your own website to participate in JVZoo, but you will need to know how to drive traffic to a landing or squeeze page in order to profit from being a JVZoo affiliate.

Next, you need to make sure affiliate marketing makes sense for your own products in terms of profit margins. If you’re selling products with a very low profit margin then giving away part of the profit as commission to your affiliates, you might want to think twice. If you find yourself in this situation, you may want to consider increasing the price of your products to include the affiliate’s commission.
Since your pin is going directly to a seller’s site and not your blog or review, make sure that the title and description of each pin is informative and straight to the point. You can use two to three sentences and always, always, always disclose. Remember that these titles and descriptions are what help Pinterest users find you when they do a search. The better your description is, the more sales you will get.
JVZoo’s strength is that it allows experienced marketers to gain access to product launches and a huge range of online courses while setting up sales funnels and customized landing pages. It’s definitely not for someone who wants to monetize a blog or earn money by having users click through and buy physical products. If you’ve carved out a strong presence online in the marketing space, JVZoo might be a perfect fit.
He also says, "social media has a lot of mobile users. This means social media affiliate marketing can be integral in increasing mobile sales and clicks." An increasing percentage of users view all webpages through the screen of a phone or tablet. Make sure your affiliate marketing website is mobile-optimized, but also make sure that all your links from Twitter go to pages that are just as good on a Samsung Galaxy Mini as they are on your Dell XPS or Apple MacBook.

An alternative form form of paid ads to consider is display network advertising. Here, text and image ads are shown on a network of affiliate sites. Affiliates can range from mobile apps, and high traffic sites like wikiHow, to the most niche and local of news sites. The idea is that it is tied to any content that your target audience is consuming every single day.
Treat Facebook as you would an old-school noticeboard - posting announcements and updates, but also asking questions to generate interest, and reposting interesting articles and stories that you think your followers will appreciate. Make sure likes you accumulate are organic; it may be appealing to buy 13,000 likes from an overseas "like farm," but it won't drive any more than the most minimal levels of additional engagement, and ends up looking more like vanity than anything useful.
For example, when you promote a Clickbank product, you might earn $25 in commissions per sale, but when you promote a high ticket program like Aversity, you can earn up to $3,000 per sale online. That’s why the high ticket products are an important part of any successful online business and you must include it in your own business if you’re planning to make it.
Besides, if you ignore social media, you are essentially allowing your competition to scoop up all that traffic while you get nothing. What if I told you that by being active on social media, you could grow your traffic 800 fold and obtain 5 million views per month just from social media traffic sources? Read this story about how it actually happened.
Hi, Jamie! Very good list. I needed something like this for 2018 so that I know what to target in the future blogs I create. As for now, I’m comfortable using SiteGround affiliate network and it’s pretty good actually. Their hosting service is pretty much the best considered its price. I’ve tried others but SiteGround stands out. I’ll also try new affiliate networks, something from the list you have just provided. I think Amazon is too saturated at the moment, and I need a better network. 2018 will be interesting indeed.
I would personally agree with linkshare.com as a great affiliate marketing platform to join as a publisher. Here’s why. Back in 2005 when I knew nothing about affiliate marketing and was using blogger.com as a free blogging platform without any experience whatsoever and joining Walmart.com as my first official affiliate program, I was able to insert Walmart affiliate in its in my blogger blog and earn a $72 commission. I was onto affiliate marketing for life from there.
Amazon Affiliates typically pays between 3-5% commission for each product sold. What will really determine how much you earn however is your conversion rate. This number is based on the amount of people that watch your videos and then go on to purchase a product you're advertising. This can be as low as 1% but others have reported around 8%. It really depends on your niche and the products your advertising.
I started my first blog back in June 2012 and that was the start of my fascination with making money online. In early 2015, I took a position as a collaborations manager for a small business coordinating their influencer marketing. During my time with them, I learned a lot about influencers as well as affiliate programs and how many of them were actually able to make full-time incomes from home via affiliate marketing. It blew my mind!
It is important to note, however, that StudioPress is now a subsidiary of WPEngine which is the company that actually does the web hosting on which StudioPress’s Genesis framework runs. The affiliate program only works with choosing the StudioPress framework and themes, not the actual hosting on WPEngine. WPEngine has a separate affiliate program for its hosting services, which yes, is a bit confusing.
The content being shared on the social media should be a bit different than the one that is being shared on your blogs. It is should be more engaging and entertaining. You could experiment with podcasts, videos or infographics to start with. The idea is to get your audience talking about a certain topic that is relevant to the products you are promoting.
Inspiring other bloggers to maximize their blogging income through affiliate marketing is a huge passion of mine so I’m super excited to share my thoughts on how to use affiliate links on Pinterest to grow your affiliate earnings. If you are a blogger looking to get started with affiliate marketing or improve your affiliate marketing earnings, be sure to click the image below to get my free mini-eBook on affiliate marketing for bloggers.
JVZoo works exclusively with digital products, primarily e-commerce, online courses, and internet marketing offers. Because there are no limits placed on the number of links, buy buttons, or calls to action on a website, JVZoo can sometimes be somewhat low quality both in terms of offers as well as products. Nonetheless, it has proven itself to be a fierce competitor to companies like ClickBank.

I had that experience as well. Getting high monthly page views doesn’t necessarily translate to more traffic. You also need to focus on the conversion rate of your pins. For each pin, divide the number of clicks by the number of close ups. That gives you the conversation rate. You want that number to be at least 50%. Make a note of the pins that have the highest conversation rates and see what design elements they have in common. They create more pins like them. Hope that helps.

Many of us have gotten burned at some point through paid traffic. We invest money in Facebook ads and drive people back to our sites, but we don’t always get the sales we need to foot the bill. With affiliate marketing, on the other hand, you can rest assured that all your revenue can be pure profit because there’s no required up front investment since affiliates are paid through commissions.

Once you’ve recruited your affiliates, you’ll want to keep tabs on them and the performance of your program. Regular communication is essential to establishing a strong affiliate program, and this can happen via email, as that’s the preferred method of communication for most affiliate marketers, per the AffStat 2016 Affiliate Marketing Benchmark Report.

Content marketing strategy should be your first priority. Content is the base foundation for any product or service. It behaves like a life-saving drug for any product. There will be no traffic on your page if your content is not interesting or effective. If you compromise with your content and only think about making money online, you will lose viewers on your page.
The content being shared on the social media should be a bit different than the one that is being shared on your blogs. It is should be more engaging and entertaining. You could experiment with podcasts, videos or infographics to start with. The idea is to get your audience talking about a certain topic that is relevant to the products you are promoting.
The quality of your photos can make or break your pin’s success. As new bloggers, we’re all cash-strapped, this is one area where you can’t be cheap. Don’t underestimate the power of professional quality images! I use Deposit Photos to source all my images for pins. Typically, I’ll search for images like “feminine computer desk” or “workspace with flowers.”
There’s a good reason why ClickBank is still a strong contender, however it does tend to focus more on digital products which may be of questionable quality. Yes, the review process is more professional these days, but it’s still primarily focused on selling digital products, especially “how to make money” courses and the like. That being said, there are some genuinely high-quality products on offer, and few affiliate programs are bigger than ClickBank, especially in selling (primarily digital) books.
There are many ways to make money with your videos and one popular way is to make money is to combine YouTube videos and affiliate links. If you have an active channel on YouTube are building subscribers, and like to upload regular videos about anything, you can turn your video views into constant income for you. Many people opt to use the YouTube ads program to make money out of their videos. This is the most standard money making program on YouTube but it may not provide much of an income in the long run. For hundreds of views on your videos, you might only make a few cents out of your YouTube ads.

Your Facebook page is your “face” (pun not intended, I promise). Of all your accounts, people will probably look up your Facebook the most. So what you share here is extremely important. It’s better to be quite mean with promotional content (of course, this doesn’t apply if you have a coupon website). The common ratio is 80/20 – that means that out of eight posts, two can be promotional. Compared with your other social media, you should be sharing the least amount of affiliate links there.
As I mentioned earlier, most of your monetization options are severely limited when it comes to social media. Direct selling, AdSense and advertising space sales are all out. It’s in this situation that affiliate links become exceptionally powerful. You can post an affiliate link on any social network, and wherever it travels you’ll be credited. Time to get a list of options together.
Shopify is probably the most popular e-commerce solutions provider out there, but because there are so many products and options, newcomers can easily get confused. If you believe your audience has products to sell and could benefit from Shopify’s products and are able to elucidate the benefits of signing up for Shopify, you can definitely earn some big money with their affiliate program.
