I had that experience as well. Getting high monthly page views doesn’t necessarily translate to more traffic. You also need to focus on the conversion rate of your pins. For each pin, divide the number of clicks by the number of close ups. That gives you the conversation rate. You want that number to be at least 50%. Make a note of the pins that have the highest conversation rates and see what design elements they have in common. They create more pins like them. Hope that helps.
Keep conversations centered on the topic of your choice - in this case, related to your affiliate program - but don't be afraid to show a little of your personality in your tweets. For someone running an affiliate program, this is obviously a necessary piece of the puzzle. Not only do you need to get paid for your sales, but you need your customers to be able to make purchases and—much as you’d like to forget this part—you also have to pay your affiliates!
Early on in my stay, I was assigned the Affiliate Marketing beat, and I found that one of the best ways to familiarize myself with the industry in an efficient manner was through social media, specifically Twitter. I had bookmarked a ton of blogs and affiliate network websites, but it was the simple act of following various Twitter accounts (and occasionally talking with them through direct messages) that really helped me get a feel for the world of performance marketing.
First, you should feel free to pin relevant affiliate content to your EXISTING personal boards that are filled with mostly substantive content from other blogs. You only have 280 characters to sell your product. That really isn’t a lot. This is eaten up pretty quickly especially if you post a link on Twitter even if it has been shortened. Why do your followers need the product that you are promoting? What good will it do them? Will it solve their problem? It sounds daunting but in some ways having a very limited amount of text can actually be a good thing. Some affiliate marketers try to put in too much information on Facebook or Instagram and they put potential customers off. With Twitter, you have to sell the product right away and marketing in Twitter can often be more effective.

You’ll always have more success backing a product you love or really believe in, and if you impress your audiences with a quality product, they’re more like to do word of mouth marketing for you, sending other interested parties to you to experience the product for themselves. While focusing on as many products as you can, regardless of quality, may seem like the way to get more from social media for affiliate marketing, you’re doing yourself a disservice when compared to backing a few products that you really love.

The only way we can make a difference in your quantitative analysis is by changing the commission we offer, but we find we can really go the extra mile elsewhere. We’ve spent lots of time making sure that the unique affiliate dashboards are as full of (regularly updated) content to help you in your efforts as much as possible, and I’m always personally available on the other end of an email if there are any problems. After all, the more success you have, the more we have – so we’re going to do everything we can to make that happen!
