The first question you need to answer is whether or not affiliate marketing is right for your product or service. There are two things you need to consider. First, have a look at whether your competitors are practicing affiliate marketing and how they’re doing it. If you see their products promoted by social media influencers and the like, it’s a good sign that affiliate marketing in your niche pays off.
In this example, a blogger might put this link on their blog to try to get their readers to click through to your “blue widget” page and hopefully buy something. You just need to create an account, add your group (family & friends), become familiar with the features and follow those people, who have the same interests like you. These platforms are free of charges, but you are supposed to invest both time and efforts. Just like in our lemonade example, a good affiliate marketing program reduces overhead costs and reduces risk. Since it can be quite expensive to hire sales & marketing employees, having an army of affiliate partners can give you the reach and sales you’re looking for, without the staffing investment that many e-commerce businesses can’t afford in the first place.
You’ll realize that attributing commission directly to a specific link is difficult to do, so to gain the insights that will help you best optimize your campaign, you need to be clever. One way is to test a single variation per week – for example only post photos to Facebook at 3pm, then measure the commission earned that for week. The following week do the same, but post at 3pm on Twitter. You could also use bit.ly links to track the click-throughs on social networks that otherwise don’t provide you with these insights (I’m looking at you, Twitter). 
In this way, you’ll slowly build a picture of which programs are profitable, and which are a waste of time.

You have to remember that on Twitter, you only have 140 characters to work with. (At least for now–who knows what will happen with this 280 character limit in the works.) Your link takes up 23 characters of your tweet, even when you don’t use a link shortener, so you have 117 to say what you want to about the product and disclose that it’s an affiliate link. So you need to be short, sweet, and to the point.
Depending on your niche, your audience will prefer certain platforms. I know, all these names like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit (don’t forget about Youtube and Snapchat), might sound a bit overwhelming. But you’ll find out that people that read your content and share your interests usually hang out on two or three of these. Again, a social media listening tool could help you analyze which platform is popular among your audience.

Commissions are paid for sales of any of these products, including users who sign up for a 14-day free trial and then convert to a paid account.
