Affiliate marketing is used both in business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) campaigns, but it’s far more popular among the consumer products industry. According to the AffStat 2016 Affiliate Marketing Benchmark Report, nearly 60% of affiliate marketers promote B2C, compared to 22% for B2C services and even less for B2B products and services.
Getting accepted into a good affiliate program, such as Amazon Associates, requires you to have a website that is live. You cannot register for the Amazon affiliate program using your YouTube channel. You need to have your own website and the website needs to be informative and relevant to the products that you will promote. This is because a team from Amazon will check your website for eligibility for their affiliate program. Unless you have a good website set up, you shouldn’t apply for their affiliate program, since most of the time your application will be rejected.

Affiliate marketing is a great way to start building your potential offering on your Shopify store. There are thousands of affiliate products that you can test on several avenues and be able to profit while testing out the waters on which products there's demand for. You can also identify which demographic you'd want to focus your store towards based on the profitability of your affiliate efforts.
Creating a blog is also a great idea to along with your products. Though a large following doesn’t guarantee a profitable experience, it generally holds true that the larger an audience the greater your revenue potential on Twitter. Unless you’re a well known figure or enjoying your 15 minutes of fame–like these guys–growing the number of followers will take a lot of hard work. Here are some tips to make it easier:
On a monthly basis, I’ve had success devoting an hour or two to a couple of activities. First, I send out a monthly newsletter to my affiliates (you can typically do this within your affiliate app). In the email, I let them know about anything new that’s cooking – and encourage everyone to log into their affiliate dashboard so that he or she can share the news.
In effect, VigLink works as the middleman between a publisher (blogger) and merchants by scanning the publisher’s content and automatically creating links to publishers that are chosen “in real time” based on their payout/conversation rates. This makes VigLink a very hands-off affiliate program for publishers who prefer to focus on content instead of managing their affiliate links.
The thing I love most about Twitter is that it a listening device. A lot of people use it and promote it as a broadcasting tool (which is can be useful for) but I’m increasingly finding it to be a fantastic way to hear what people are thinking – both about life in general but also you. If you engage in affiliate marketing on twitter make sure you stay in tune with how people respond. This doesn’t just mean watching what people ‘reply’ to you but also means watching what happens to subscriber numbers after you tweet and also watching what people say about you without using your @username (you can set up an RSS feed on Twitter search to watch for keywords like your name).
Keep conversations centered on the topic of your choice - in this case, related to your affiliate program - but don't be afraid to show a little of your personality in your tweets. Remember that as long as you don't offend or annoy anyone, people are way more likely to form a bond with a publisher who doesn't just push his or her affiliate programs, but also likes to educate, inform and entertain.
As I thought about it a bit more, a few more names came to mind. All these marketers are people I trust enough to educate someone I know and like, and they’ve all got awesome Twitter feeds. If you aren’t following these people already, start now. Oh – and there’s this thing called Google +, too. Most of them have a presence on that platform as well.
That’s not to say that running social media campaigns will be difficult from your position as affiliate program manager. We’ve put together many of the tools you’ll need to get started. Heck, once you sign up, you can easily give out affiliate links that can be transferred to Facebook statuses, Twitter tweets, and LinkedIn updates. You don’t have to be intimidated by social media if you’ve never used it for business purposes.
One last thing to consider: even if your product listings point to reputable retailers, visitors might be confused or freaked out when they’re sent to other sites when trying to purchase your curated products. By being upfront about your affiliate relationship and how the site works, you’ll increase trust and remove any doubts they have about shopping with you.
Once seen as a strategy distinct from affiliate programs, influencer marketing has been continually edging toward modern affiliate marketing. With the tracking and measurement of influencer marketing approximating the level of detail and sophistication that traditional affiliate marketing has achieved, savvy affiliates are now looking to foster thoughtful influencer campaigns that leverage the purchasing and reviewing power of social media stars.
If I were to recommend one tips above others it would be this one. I think it would be much more effective and less intrusive with the culture on Twitter to tweet a link to a post you’ve written on your blog that includes an affiliate link – than to tweet the affiliate link directly. Write up a review of the product on your blog, give a balanced review, share why the product is relevant to your readers, tell them who would benefit most from it etc. And THEN tweet a link to the review. The problem with Twitter is that you’ve got 140 or so characters and to really do the product you’re promoting service and to give your readers a well balanced review you need more than that.

If you’re a website owner, it is perfectly reasonable to expect Twitter to become your #1 traffic source. No longer will you be at the mercy of relying on Google or putting all of your eggs in the search engine optimization basket. Once you’ve mastered Twitter, you can master other social media networks, improve your email marketing, and at the same time continue working on driving free search engine traffic. With a diverse stream of traffic, you are building a REAL business. One that isn’t at the mercy of a single algorithm change or one traffic source.


But that’s kind of the balance is you’ve got to balance like I’m developing an audience, but I need to make it sustainable. So sometimes it makes great business sense for you to go ahead and use an affiliate. And other times you’re like, you know what? Maybe not on this video because my main goal for this video is just to get it to rank really high.
