On Twitter, you can tweet every 15 minutes – that’s an average lifespan of a tweet. In fact, it’s recommended to tweet no less than five or ten times every day. But the general rule still stands – you can’t expect to make money on Twitter by tweeting sales pitches every 15 minutes – you need to build a relationship. And after you establish a Twitter presence, you can link to relevant affiliate offers without having to worry about getting unfollowed or blocked.
For example, I have a post featuring 10 Affordable Headboards on my blog. Affiliate marketing on the other hand can be done with very little to no investment. The only investment is the domain name and auto-responder service like Aweber. You need to set up a opt-in page to collect email of prospects in return for a free gift and do your marketing in follow up emails that you set up in your auto-responder. If you want you can spend some money advertising your opt-in page or go the free route for promoting it. However, don't expect to make sales right away. It can take a while for sales to trickle in.

Obviously you shouldn't be spamming your videos everywhere, but making detailed posts/responses about your content that you think other users might find interesting. The more times your videos are shared, the more YouTube will see your video as useful and give it a boost in it's rankings. You'll also gain traffic from those shared videos, some can even be evergreen.


If you’re linking to lower quality products, regardless of your post quality, the look of your link, or your photo use, you’re not going to make what you want to make from social media for affiliate marketing. You’ll always have more success backing a product you love or really believe in, and if you impress your audiences with a quality product, they’re more like to do word of mouth marketing for you, sending other interested parties to you to experience the product for themselves. While focusing on as many products as you can, regardless of quality, may seem like the way to get more from social media for affiliate marketing, you’re doing yourself a disservice when compared to backing a few products that you really love.

If you’re running WordPress, I use a plugin called Thirsty Affiliates to cloak, manage, and track my affiliate links (you have to pay Thirsty Affiliates for their add-ons if you want extra features). The free version is still good… just install the plugin and find the “Affiliate Links” tab on the left of your dashboard. Add the link name and destination URL, save it, then copy the cloaked version of the URL so you can add it to your Youtube video annotations.
