Before we jump in, a quick note on the official Twitter guidelines: the platform doesn’t allow any third parties to inject paid tweets into a timeline on any service that leverages the Twitter API. So the opportunities to place sponsored messages are still somewhat “old school” in that they must avoid the types of automation that have become ubiquitous on the Web.
This is fascinating to me….. never, ever, ever in a million years would I have thought I’d even *consider* starting a blog but in recent years I have also dreamt of staying home with my kids (I’m also a nurse!!) AND being financially set (and then some?!). The problem is that this whole concept is so foreign and terrifying to me. What was your (or a realistic) timeline from when you very first started your blog to when you could financially do that as your “real job”? And now that you’re established I understand you have passive income but what does your schedule look like? How much time do you have with your kids? I picture having to be at the computer for 6 hours a day?!?! I just wish I could actually see what someone like you does to create your posts and “work” 😉. The social media landscape is volatile and changes quickly. Just look at the scattered wreckage of Myspace or Friendster. Some commentators were even sounding the death knell for Facebook in the last few years. But as social networks have matured, they have established their individual spaces in the marketplace. Determining which networks to target and how to target them deserves consideration. Which channels have the highest potential for online sales? Who is actually using these networks?

When you feel like the conversation calls for it, insert an affiliate link and say why this product would help in this particular situation. That way people will trust you and will be more inclined to buy the product.
On the topic of looking for affiliates that cater to your niche, another way to bring on affiliates is by emailing other entrepreneurs in that niche as well. If you’re not using an affiliate program, finding other stores on your own that target an audience similar to yours and reaching out to them could be a great way to start a really profitable relationship.
Social media is one of the most powerful tools we’ve gained in today’s modern technological age, and this goes for marketing and beyond. With mindful use, social media for affiliate marketing can be an invaluable tool to your affiliate marketing success, as well as your networking with other fellow affiliate marketers. In such a socially driven business, this networking aspect is an important one, and one that isn’t often thought of but is benefitted from greatly.
Become a Groupon Affiliate. The Groupon affiliate program also lends itself to Twitter, where many users are interested in finding out about timely, local opportunities. You should also re-tweet interesting information related to your industry, share cool videos, or anything useful. Twitter isn’t all about driving sales and traffic to your website – it’s about gaining a loyal following. Sure, a promo tweet about your business every now and then is completely acceptable, you should simply avoid doing it all the time. When you share highly relevant, useful, entertaining, or helpful information, you not only gain more followers, but people will check out your profile. That’s where much of your website traffic will come from. So just provide high quality info and the rest is easy.
